Welcome and Farewell Party Spring 2012


Students studying Mass Communication at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) have expressed the resolve that will adopt the field of journalism not as a profession but as an obligation to serve their country and countrymen.

This determination came at the conclusion of an extra-curricular week which, beside other activities, featured practical journalistic exercises at the Islamabad campus.

Students of media sciences produced a 30-minute news bulletin named "ZAB News" which included different video packages produced by the students on a variety of topics such as hazards of smoking, price hike and traffic problems.

These on-camera TV reports were produced to enhance journalistic skills of the students and equip them with techniques and standards of camerawork, video editing and script writing. Exposure to these kind of practical exercises was also to enable the students of mass media to effectively and efficiently highlight issues of national importance particularly those relating to the common man.

Students said they are committed to empower the powerless in Pakistan by becoming their voice as media persons. Aspiring journalists said after completion of their education they will focus their journalistic pursuits on the welfare of oppressed and will raise their problems and miseries in whichever way possible.

The youngsters also vowed to abide by principles of truth and honestly to promote healthy journalism in Pakistan and to contribute towards strengthening the fourth pillar of the state.

Objective behind the week-long spate of extra-curricular activities was to provide students of various disciples an opportunity to think beyond academic theories and explore their individual talent in a practical way.

The week also featured fun activities such as, cricket, football, badminton, volley ball, table tennis, basket ball, singing, acting, anchoring, dancing, mimicry and other god-gifted abilities which the students demonstrated and received a great deal of applause from audience.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Asad Hussain, Director SZABIST said the chain of events provided students healthy entertainment beside giving them a chance to carryout creative and constructive activities.
